Correction is a Good Thing

1Peter 4:17-18
For the time has come for judgment to begin with the house of God. If judgment begins with us first, what will be the end for those who disobey the Good News of God?
18 Now, “if it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what shall become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

Judgement begins within the kingdom…
And this bit of scripture says it is hard even for the righteous to be saved.

Revelation categorizes those of the kingdom into seven different churches. The church of Philadephia will be protected from what is to come, while the other six churches will suffer the tribulation, in the hope that this hardship will cause them to fully turn to Yehova.

Out of love for our brothers and sisters, we should not only strive to be of the church of Philadelphia, but we should encourage others among us to strive for the same.

The legendary men and women of the bible were not perfect. They had failures, some of them serious failures including murder, adultery, lack of faith, etc.
But what did they all have in common, to become legendary?
They had a heart for Yehova and His ways.

If we have brothers and sisters who are lukewarm, we need to encourage them to have a heart for His ways. We cannot make up their minds for them, but we do a disservice to them if we stand by and ignore their disobedience to the Word.
In the same way, I hope that my brothers and sisters will correct me when needed.
Correction is born of love, not legalism or criticism.

The world teaches us to reject correction.
We should develop an attitude to desire correction, as it is ultimately encouragement for all the right things, for all the right reasons.

Proverbs 10:8
The wise in heart accept commands,
but a babbling fool comes to ruin.

Proverbs 10:17
One who heeds discipline is on the path of life,
but whoever ignores correction goes astray.

Provers 12:1
Whoever loves knowledge loves correction,
but whoever hates reproof is stupid.

Provers 13:18
He who spurns discipline comes to poverty and shame,
but whoever accepts correction will be honored.

Proverbs 15:5
A fool despises his father’s discipline,
but one who accepts reproof is smart.

Proverbs 15:10
Stern correction awaits one who forsakes the way.
One who hates reproof will die.

Proverbs 15:32
Whoever avoids correction despises himself,
but whoever heeds reproof acquires understanding.

Proverbs 6:23
For the mitzvah is a lamp, Torah a light,
and corrective discipline the way of life,

This bit of scripture from Proverbs 1 indicates we should not be lukewarm. We should not “take our time” to turn to the ways of Yehova.
The consequences may be disastrous, to delay in hearing His voice and turning to it.

Proverbs 1:24-33
Because you refused when I called,
and did not pay attention when I stretched out my hand,
25 since you ignore all my advice
and would not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh at your calamity.
I will mock when dread comes on you,
27 when your terror comes like a storm
and your calamity sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when trouble and distress overwhelm you!
28 Then they will cry out to me, but I will not answer!
They will earnestly seek me, but will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of Adonai,
30 they would not accept my counsel,
they spurned all my reproof,
31 so they will eat the fruit of their own way
and be filled with their own schemes.
32 For the backsliding of the naïve will kill them
and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
33 But whoever pays attention to me will live securely,
and be free from the fear of evil.”
